Top junior bocce players from Queensland, ACT/Cooma, New South Wales, and Victoria are set to compete at the Australian Junior U15, U18, and U23 Open Championship to be held on May 20th and 21st at the Redlands Sporting Club in Wellington Point, QLD.
Organized by Bocce Australia and sponsored by the Redlands Sporting Club, the championship will feature elite male and female athletes competing in six bocce disciplines, including traditional Singles, Doubles, and BowlThrow, as well as the more spectacular throwing events of Precision Throw, Progressive Throw, and Rapid Relay Throw.
The competition will serve as a qualifier for the World Titles later this year, and the winners will have a chance to represent Australia on the world stage.
Bocce Australia President Frank Funari expressed his excitement about the championship, saying, “We are looking forward to a spectacular bocce championship thanks to the keenness of the junior athletes and the support of the Redlands Sporting Club, which has a long tradition with the sport and has generated many National and International bocce championships.”
Sports Director Sonia Fava added, “We are confident the event will continue to attract interest across the country and inspire the next generation of Australian bocce players to take on the sport for both sport and recreation.”
The Redlands Sporting Club, managed by Junior QLD Coach Kerrie Reitano, is the home of the Qld Bocce-roos junior bocce team and the center of excellence for Bocce in the region. The club offers fantastic facilities, a bistro, and many other activities.
Local residents have a great opportunity to witness future bocce stars as they compete in the boccedrome of the Redlands Sporting Club.
