Victoria update

Echuca Interclub Games

On Sunday, March 16, 30 athletes from Special Olympics MER, MIE, M-North, M-West, Echuca and Ovens-Murray clubs attended the Echuca Interclub Games at the Moama Lawn Bowling Club.

To open the games, members of the LETR led the athletes on a torch run, followed by the athlete’s oath, and soon after the games of doubles teams were open.

There was a special camaraderie between the athletes, all helping their playing partners when in need, and lots of smiles when points were won – no matter win or lose was the attitude, as long as they played the game they love as best they could.

There was joy and applause at the awards of the ribbons – being at the games is what they wanted and they enjoyed being with their friends. Everyone was a winner on the day! They congratulated themselves with pride and smiles. It was a fantastic day of bocce, and everyone enjoyed a well-deserved lunch at the Moama Bowls Club venue.

A big thanks to the referees, volunteers and parents for their help. A special thanks to Sue Hawkins and the Echuca team for arranging such a great day.

Thanks to Cathy Cook and Rick Gatto for arranging a bus for the day from the Veneto Club in Bulleen to Echuca for many of the athletes, parents and carers.
