Bocce Australia is excited to unveil the athletes representing Australia at this year’s World Bocce Championships in St Vulbas, France.
Under the guidance of Team Australia senior coach Tony Palermo, the Australian bocce team is poised to showcase their skill and ambition on the international stage.
The championship will be hosted in St Vulbas, boules sport headquarters, about 45 minutes from Lyon in France, from May 5 – 11.
The team boasts a mix of seasoned and emerging talents, including Daniel Samsa, Stefano Chiandotto, Angelo Parisi, and Dino Mikolic.
Nicole Samsa will bring her prowess to the mixed events, ensuring a strong presence across all categories. Bocce Australia delegate and sports development director Sonia Fava will accompany the team, providing support and strategic insight.
This diverse and talented squad is ready to face off against the world’s best from powerhouse nations such as France, Croatia, Slovenia, and Italy. With a mix of experience, talent, and unyielding dedication, Team Australia is eyeing the podium with confidence and determination.
The team will fine-tune their preparations with a training camp in Lyon, immersing themselves in the final stages of preparation for what is often dubbed the bocce equivalent of the FIFA World Cup. Competing in both men’s and mixed disciplines, including Singles, Doubles, Progressive Throw, Precision Throw, Rapid Relay, Mixed Rapid Relay, and Mixed Bowl Throw, the team is geared up for a challenging but rewarding championship.
Reflecting on the journey to this point, Bocce Australia CEO Frank Funari highlighted the resilience and growth of the sport and its athletes in Australia, especially following a challenging period marked by global disruptions.
“The past 24 months have been a testament to the spirit and dedication of our bocce community, and we are thrilled to see our athletes ready to represent Australia on the world stage,” he said.
Team Australia’s delegate Sonia Fava also emphasised the significance of this moment for Bocce Australia, acknowledging the blend of experience and talent as a cornerstone for both current and future success.
