The weekend of May 20 – 21, 2023 has been confirmed for the Bocce Australian Junior Open.
Redlands Sporting Club in Brisbane will host the tournament, where the boccedrome will be full of the sounds of bocce bowls clanking, smashing and bashing as young bocce athletes showcase their skills.
The Junior Open is the showcase event for players in the age categories Under 15, Under 18 and Under 23 wishing to compete at national championships and to qualify to represent Australia at international events.
Last year a contingent of more than 20 junior players, family and friends travelled to Monaco, France, and Turkey to represent Australia at the various international championships. It was a great experience for the junior athletes as they experienced world-class competition and saw how juniors from other countries were esteemed by fellow athletes and respected the sport of bocce.
States and clubs should be preparing to start their junior bocce promotional activities from February. Clubs wanting to establish a junior program at their club or any juniors wishing to learn and play bocce should contact their local state bocce federation representative for details about local training programs and competitions.
Bocce Australia is excited to welcome the many young athletes and families of bocce sport to Brisbane for the weekend of May 20 – 21, 2023. This time of year traditionally sees Queensland’s climate at its best and is conducive to top sporting performances.
So, it is game on for junior bocce!
